WELCOME TO G.H.O.S.T.

04/06/2008

About G.H.O.S.T., Inc.

1.       What are our day jobs? Most of us have them, and they range from manufacturing work to corporate management to owning our own businesses. However, we do have many disabled members in our group as well, and strive to provide a diverse range of forums to allow our members the opportunity to participate fully.

2.       What are our educational backgrounds? Educational backgrounds range from high school diplomas and GEDs all the way up to PhDs, and a vast array of personal experiences in between. The great thing about our team is we use our individual skill sets wherever they fit in best for the group – all skill sets are treated with an equal amount of respect.

3.       What are our religious backgrounds? Most of the members come from Christian backgrounds (different denominations), although we have members from Buddhist, Pagan, Wicca, Agnostic and other backgrounds. Having a diversified religious background allows our group to look at potential paranormal activity and influence from a multi-dimensional perspective. We operate in an environment of respect and tolerance of each member’s religious background.

4.       How did we get interested in ghost hunting? Some members grew up having personal experiences other members have never had any. Some members seem to be sensitive to paranormal activity, other members couldn’t sense paranormal phenomena if it was standing right in front of them. The reasons for our interest vary greatly, but our desire to find physical scientific proof of ghosts is our common goal.

5.       When did our group get started? Our six charter members met for the first time on February 23, 2007. We became incorporated as a nonprofit organization on April 19, 2007, and hit the ground running! In 2007, we successfully completed sixteen investigations, and are actively putting more on the schedule every month. Some of the investigations reveal possible paranormal activity while others reveal normal every day explanations for “things that go bump in the night”.

6.       What is our overriding philosophy or goal? Our group actively strives to seek out proof of the existence of paranormal activity. However, we also believe in maintaining due diligence in providing education and examples of every day occurrences that are often mistaken as paranormal. We also believe there is high potential for paranormal activity to be influenced or linked to the history associated with the location of its occurrence and make efforts to provide information on the local history to our viewers when possible. We believe in pursuing our interests in a drug and alcohol free environment, and always with permission from the property owner or manager (no trespassing or hopping fences to capture evidence). We do not use tarot cards, Ouija boards, or séances in any of our investigative practices.

7.       How many members do we have? We currently are averaging about seventeen full time members, with ten to fifteen active consistently. Membership participation varies depending on available time and interest. Some members are active on a daily basis. Others are active on a weekly, monthly and even quarterly basis as their life responsibilities allow them time. We also work with affiliate groups throughout Tennessee and other southeastern states, conducting joint investigations or making referrals for investigation opportunities falling in their areas.

8.       What are your qualifications for membership? Members must be at least 21 years of age, never convicted of a felony, drug free, and able to provide their own transportation to and from group activities. Members must be able to pay monthly dues of $5.00 in a timely fashion, and cover their own travel expenses to and from investigation locations. All parties interested in membership are admitted on a probationary basis. During their probation, members must attend monthly member meetings, participate in at least two investigations, evidence review of audio-video-photographic and environmental data, participate in a committee activity, complete at least one research assignment, and provide at least one investigative lead.

 G.H.O.S.T. Highlights

9.       Do we charge for investigations? No. This service is provided at not charge; however, our return on investment comes from our ability to post investigative findings on our web site www.ghosttn.com. Each investigation is assigned a code to ensure confidentiality of the property owners involved. Additionally, it should be noted that we do have to pay for some of our investigation opportunities, particularly at historic sites, and individual members are responsible for paying their own way.

10.    Do we prefer to investigate during the day or night? Since many of our members have day jobs, we seem to conduct most of our investigations in the evenings and on weekends. However, our preference is to conduct an investigation at the time peak paranormal activity has been noticed.

11.    Do we prefer private residences or historic / public sites? We do not have a preference, and have investigation footage from private, public, and historic locations on our site. However, we will not agree to investigate a location without the signed permission from the parties in charge of the location – whether that is the home owner(s), curator(s), or property manager(s) / owner(s). Before requesting an investigation, please make sure the responsible parties are involved in making the investigation request.

12.    What kinds of equipment do we use? We use a combination of analog and digital equipment – analog and digital audio recorders, analog and digital cameras, analog and digital video recorders, electromagnetic frequency (EMF) detectors, environmental condition monitors, thermal sensors, et cetera. We also assess personal experiences of our investigative teams and evaluate commonalities between information provided by our psychic / sensitive team.

13.    Does each member provide their own equipment? We have equipment that belongs directly to GHOST, but we rely heavily on supplemental personal equipment belonging to our membership. Some members have numerous pieces of equipment, other members don’t have anything. Having equipment is not a requirement for membership. However, if personal equipment is used, all evidence captured during a GHOST investigation becomes the property of GHOST (costs of tapes and disks is reimbursable with preapproval from the Board of Directors).

14.    What is our view of orbs and EVPs? Orbs are some of the most badly abused phenomena throughout the paranormal community. We strive to educate our members on the differences between paranormal orbs and environmental (dust, moisture, pollen, et cetera) elements. We continue to become more conservative in our presentation of orbs as paranormal activity, and implore other groups to do the same. Unfortunately, there have been many homeowners who have become terrified after seeing paranormal groups present dust and moisture orb photos to them as proof of a haunting. We are also moving toward use of only class A and B EVPs which do not require heavy manipulation to derive clarity. There are some class C EVPs on our site due to the profound nature of their content; however we are becoming much more selective on our presentation of this evidence in subsequent investigations.

15.    What percentage of our investigations reveals genuine hauntings? The determination of the presence of a genuine haunting is subjective. Some individuals will say a place is haunted after seeing a few photos of orbs. Others will have to see objects floating through the air before they agree to the classification of “genuinely haunted”.  Throughout our investigations we have found different levels of paranormal activity – some levels have been much higher than others. In each instance we present our findings to the property owner and allow them to draw their own conclusions. Our group’s goal is to detect the level of paranormal activity present. Depending on our findings we may recommend to the property owner that they seek the assistance of their spiritual leader of choice to “cleanse” the location.

16.    Are we disappointed when we find an alternate or scientific explanation for a disturbance? Yes and no. From the standpoint of wanting to prove the existence of paranormal activity we are very disappointed. From the standpoint of finding yet another example of how to debunk paranormal activity, we are very pleased. Debunking is just as important as finding proof positive that paranormal activity is out there. We want to stop the intentional or unintentional misclassification of every day occurrences as paranormal activity to help build credibility for real ghost hunters.

17.    What kinds of criticism or obstacles have you encountered over the years? People think we are crazy. Also, living in the Bible Belt, people thing we are “devil-worshipers” attempting to “conjure” evil spirits. Aside from these stereotypes, our biggest struggles involve trying to overcome the false information thrown out by overzealous, inexperienced groups.

18.    Which of our investigations do we feel are most successful in terms of proving the existence of the paranormal? Check out our investigation, EVP, Photo, and Video libraries and take a look for yourself.
