Background
Information & Reported Activity
LAFAYETTE PUBLIC
SAFETY BUILDING
The
Coca-Cola Bottling Works of Lafayette was incorporated in 1914 by James F.
Johnston and Robert A. Wardlaw. Mr. Johnston was the first franchised
bottler of Coca-Cola in the world, and his franchise included the City of Chattanooga and extended
in a 50-mile radius of that city. Robert Wardlaw worked for Mr. Johnston,
and
in 1915 the two men opened a bottling plant in Lafayette. The first
site was in West Lafayette,
the second near the Walker County Courthouse, and the third on South Main Street
near the Bank Lafayette. In 1935, plans were made to build a larger
facility on North Main Street.
The building was constructed at a cost of $8,500 and had large plate glass
windows to enable the public to see Coca-Cola being bottled. This building
was first occupied in 1940 and served until 1989. Today the structure is
owned by the City of Lafayette and serves
the community as the Public
Safety Building.
Investigation notes
The investigative team arrived on at 8:pm. Lead
investigator went in to talk to the on duty officer who knew nothing about
our scheduled investigation and needed top call his supervisor. Upon
receiving approval to move forward with the investigation, we were informed
that we would be limited to the upstairs only as there had been arrests and
the interview rooms on the first floor would be utilized by officers. The
upstairs consisted of a training classroom, gym, (hallway between the two)
and 3 bedrooms (2 of which were locked). Technical Manager setup an
infrared video camera with tripod ion the hallway as a stationary video.
Each of 2 teams had a handheld infrared video camera to document their
rotations.
Two (2) teams were deployed on one (1) hour rotations in the
two (2) rooms (classroom and gym).
During the first rotation, Team 2 (in the gym) experienced
anomalous EMF readings near the red workbench. These EMF readings went as
high as 11.5mG. The readings did
give off fluctuations at points when questions were being asked, as if a
response was producing the fluctuations, but this could not be established
at the cause for the fluctuations without supporting evidence. They could
not find the source of the EMF readings being detected.
During second rotation, Rick (Lead Investigator) deployed to
the gym with Team 1 to attempt to track the source of the EMF. During the
rotation, he discovered that high EMF readings were being emitted from the
floor at the base of the red work bench, as well as 3 other areas in a
pattern. Because of the pattern of where the EMF was being emitted, it was
determined that they were coming from lighting wiring/fixtures under the
within the floor to service the first floor of the building. However, the
EMF readings at these locations were only as high as 3.5 - 6.5. Therefore
does not account for the much higher readings encountered by Team 2 (11.5).
No other source could be identified to account for the difference in EMF
readings.
No other experiences or evidence of paranormal or suspected
paranormal activity was collected.
There was one piece of suspicious audio collected on the Team
1 infrared video camera in the classroom. The footage reveals a sound that
seems to be an intelligible voice. We were unable to clean up or enhance
the recording to determine if it was a voice or just a sound that was
similar to a voice. Also, if it was a sound, we could not place the sound
with anything we could account for. There is not enough evidence to
classify this recording as an “EVP”.
CONCLUSION
No paranormal activity was detected.
The
anomalous EMF readings cannot be determined to be or not to be paranormal
activity without any supporting evidence to establish them as paranormal in
nature.
