Do they claim to be Incorporated (have Inc. after their
name). Most state web sites have a Secretary of State section where this can be
verified. Being Incorporated or a non-profit organizations has no impact on
their methods or findings. However, if they are, you can easily verify their
status with the state in which they are incorporated to see if they are in good
standings.
How experienced are they?
How many paranormal investigations have they conducted?
Will they provide references
Do they have the investigative summary / results posted?
Read their results page and see how they investigate and
report their findings.
Are their findings based on credible evidence or merely
their opinion?
Does the group provide ongoing training for their members?
Training is not simply watching “Ghost Hunters on television
Do they screen their members for criminal backgrounds.
Do they have a professional or commercial liability
insurance policy in case they damage anything in your home or location?
Do they have reference letters posted on their site or will
they provide you with references.
Do they claim to provide “spirit salvation” or “cross over”
lost souls? What are their qualifications to do this? Are they Clergy, formally
trained or did they read an ebook and now claim to have those abilities as a
result.
Do they use psychics, sensitive’s or mediums, if so… in
what capacity?
Interview the group, not just let them interview you. Ask
questions about their credibility, experience and training. Also ask exactly
what they will be doing and using on the investigation, how long it will last,
how long it will take to get the results. What they will do if they do find
credible evidence of a haunting……
Unfortunately there is currently no formal certification
process or governing authority for self proclaimed “paranormal Investigator”
some may claim that title or even credentials stating so. There are places on
the web where one can buy a book, take a test and be dubbed a “Certified
Paranormal Investigator”. This is not a legitimate credential. One can also go
to a web site and fill in your name, address and email address and pay $25 and
BAM, you’re an “Ordained Minister”. Would you go to this person for spiritual
guidance?
Very few Paranormal Investigative groups charge for an
investigation, but there are a few that do. You need to explore the possibility
that their findings are based on their price. If I pay more, do I get the
findings I suspect, expect or even want. Is their conclusion money motivated in
any way or are their findings credible regardless of payment. There are many
credible paranormal research / investigative groups that will gladly conduct an
investigation for you free of charge.
